A 30 m rope will get you up (and possibly down) most climbs. Depending on your preference, you could bring a full rack (nuts and a full set of cams), or a bouldering pad. You will need helmet, harness and boots. All intending participants must contact the trip coordinator, Sam North,  prior to the trip to let him know you are coming, your level of experience and whether you need a climbing partner - and if you have any questions (0417 138 163; or email samuel.hs.north@gmail.com) You will need to bring all the necessaries for outdoor camping for the weekend. camping gear food and water suitable clothing - check the weather forecast a few days prior.

There is a communal fire pit in the middle of the camp, and firewood is available for a small fee - or you bring your own. If you haven't climbed in the Grampians, then the rock is sandstone. Climbing is mainly trad, but there are also a number of sport climbing areas. Climbing in the Grampians is subject to restrictions and some areas are currently closed. 12-13 September - Red Rock and Ben Nevis base camp
Chinaman's Campgrounds
12-09-2026 09:00 – 13-09-2026 17:00
The WVCC September base camp will be run from our campsite in the Chinama's Campground at the western end of Mt Cole State Park from Friday evening 11 September to late-afternoon on Sunday 13 September 2026. Camping is free, but you are advised to turn up early as it is first in-first served. There are toilets and a covered eating area, but no showers. If you haven't climbed at Mt Cole, then the rock is granite. On the top of the mount along the main forest road, the climbing is on granite tors and craglets with a mix of trad, bolts and bouldering. At Red Rock, the climbing is on a large slab that requires three 50m abseils to get to the bottom of the cliff. This is not a place for novices, as you need to be able to pass a knot on abseil, as well as be able to climb a rope using prussiks. At Ben Nevis, the climbs are multi-pitch, with a  mix of trad and bolts. If you are leading, you will need a 50-60m rope, as well as a full rack. The slabs are bolt protected, but the bolts are "carrots" and require hangers, and are well spaced (10m), so you need to be comfortable with long runouts. You will need helmet, harness and boots. All intending participants must contact the trip coordinator, Sam North,  prior to the trip to confirm your intentions and experience - and to ask questions if you are unsure of arrangements (0417 138 153) You will need to bring all the necessaries for outdoor camping if you are coing for the weekend. camping gear food and water suitable clothing - check the weather forecast a few days prior.

If you are leading, then bring your rack (nuts and a full set of cams) and a rope.  The decisions about where we climb for the day will be made each morning over breakfast and a cup of tea/coffee, and will depend on the wishes and experience of those present and the weather. Blackheath Glen Tourist Park
13-04-2026 09:00 – 26-04-2026 12:00
The WVCC is running an extended trip to the Blue Mountains and Nowra in NSW over the last two weeks of April. We will be in the Blue Mountains durig the first week (13-19 April) and Nowra in the second week (20-25 April). The rock is sandstone and the climbs are a mix of multi-pitch trad and single pitch sport routes in the Blue Mountains and single pitch sport routes at Nowra. Bring a full rack (slings, nuts, 1-2 sets of cams) and a 60m rope, as well as harness, helmet and shoes. This is not a beginner trip. The multi-pitch climbs in the Blue Mountains require experience and the sport routes at Nowra are most intermediate and harder grades - mostly harder.  Options for group climbing exist, but you will get more out of this trip if you can line up a partner to climb with. We plan to camp at Blackheath Glen Tourist Park (https://www.blackheathtouristpark.com.au/) in the Blue Mountains, and at North Nowra Riverfront Caravan Park at Nowra (https://skipark.com.au/). Nothing has been booked and you will need to arrange and pay for this yourself if you plan to come on this trip. All intending participants must contact Sam North so we can coordinate transport and booking of campsites for this trip - as well as to discuss plans, whether you need a climbing partner, and to answer any questions you may have (0417 138 163; or email samuel.hs.north@gmail.com) You will need to bring all the necessaries for outdoor living for the time you are away. climbing gear camping gear food and water suitable clothing - check the weather forecast a few days prior

This is a FAMILY weekend for parents with children, but not limited to parents with kids. It will be a chilled weekend.  Depending on who is coming and partners, we can look at doing anything from easy top ropes through to harder multipitch climbs...or sit around and read a book. All intending participants must contact the trip coordinator, Adam Merrick, prior to the trip to let him know you are coming, get directions to your camp site, the level of experience in your party, and whether you need a climbing partner - plus you may have questions. 17:00 – 22:00
The Western Victorian Climbing Club is holding a BBQ and AGM at Penny Cotton and Richard Bignell's place at Creswick on Sunday evening, 25th January. The AGM will start at 8:30 - and be over very quickly. The rough plan for Sunday is to climb in the morning, followed by a swim in St George's Lake and then up to Penny and Richo's around 5pm to set up tents (they have a 5 acre block and you're welcome to camp the night) and cook dinner before the AGM. Please text Penny (0419 595 574) if you are coming to let her know, and to get the house number and the PIN to get in the gate. The event is self catering, so you will need to bring and food and drinks. Penny and Richo have a BBQ for us to use, so you won't need to pack the camp stove. If you are staying the night, then you'll need your tent, sleeping bag and mat, plus breakfast.
